In addition to being the third-busiest commercial airport in the Chicago area, the Chicago-Rockford International Airport (RFD) is also a fast-growing cargo airport. CMT has been a partner in helping the airport succeed in its journey to leverage technology to better track operations, maintain infrastructure, and manage compliance in a very dynamic and changing environment.

Most recently, the airport engaged CMT to facilitate the development and implementation of a comprehensive asset management system built on the Cityworks platform. Building on the AGIS foundation CMT had already curated in previous years, the implementation began with a new digital Part 139 Logbook system. As a Part 139-certified airport, RFD must meticulously monitor and document various activities and assets, including runway and taxiway conditions, emergency response capabilities, firefighting services, safety inspections, and personnel training, all while navigating the growing complexity of maintaining compliance with FAA safety and operational standards.

Ongoing enhancements have included mobile/desktop applications customized for fleet management, interior facilities and assets, training and certification management, properties and lease management, and a public noise reporting system.

As a Cityworks business partner, our team leveraged our aviation expertise to configure the software to align with Rockford’s unique operational needs. This included developing custom work order templates, reporting dashboards, and integration points to ensure the system seamlessly supports the airport’s day-to-day maintenance activities as well as regulatory compliance requirements. By integrating the airport’s GIS data, maintenance workflows, and SMS requirements into Cityworks, we have helped Rockford streamline operations, improve data accessibility, and make more informed decisions about their critical infrastructure.

In addition to the Cityworks implementation, CMT serves as Rockford’s on-call GIS and technology support team. We provide ongoing hosting, data management, and system administration services to keep the airport’s asset management platform running smoothly and their GIS data current and accessible. This partnership approach has been instrumental in helping Rockford realize the full benefits of their technology investments.
