Driving Growth at Chicago-Rockford International Airport:
Since 1979, CMT has had the pleasure of being a partner on the Chicago-Rockford International Airport’s (RFD) journey to becoming one of the most thriving international air cargo and logistics airports in the U.S. Since the mid-’90s, CMT has led the planning and design for significant infrastructure expansion at RFD in support of the airport’s vision and in response to the fast pace of aeronautical development demand that has driven growth.
Aeronautical Development
CMT has overseen the planning, environmental, design, and construction services associated with major site developments for cargo, logistics, and aircraft maintenance. This includes airside and landside development to support over 50 narrow- and wide-body aircraft positions, several large-scale buildings, vehicular parking and truck movements areas, road expansions, utilities, and stormwater. This includes the development of UPS’s second-largest air-sorting hub and subsequent expansions, a major MRO facility, and ongoing development at both the Northwest and Midfield Cargo Areas.
Planning and Environmental
CMT has facilitated RFD’s planning efforts while providing other related services that promote momentum toward development:
- Master Plans/ALPs
- Facility, terminal, and cargo planning
- NEPA and environmental compliance
- Strategic funding and agency coordination support
- Annual capital programming
- Safety management
- Asset management/Cityworks
Airport/Airfield Engineering
CMT provides airfield and other aviation-related engineering services that support the safe operation of aviation activities:
- Comprehensive pavement management
- Multiple airfield rehabilitation and reconstruction projects
- Runway 7/25 extension
- Electrical and lighting including upgrading to Category III ILS
- Stormwater and aircraft deicing infrastructure
- Terminal expansions
